Kanji Trainer · last updated 29 September 2026

Kanji Trainer collects nothing, sends nothing about you and contains no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. It has no user accounts and no server of its own. Everything the app records stays on your device.

What the app stores

When you finish a practice run, Kanji Trainer saves a score report in its own private storage on your device. A report holds the settings you chose, the words you were asked, which answers were right or wrong, and how long the run took. Nothing in it identifies you. The app also keeps your settings and the word packs you installed.

You can delete any report, or all of them, from the reports screen at any time. Uninstalling the app removes them along with it.

What leaves your device

Practice runs entirely offline. The app makes two kinds of network request, both to its public dataset on Hugging Face (huggingface.co/datasets/arsalan-anwari/kanji-data): reading the list of available word packs, and downloading a pack you chose to install. Neither request carries anything about you or your results. Hugging Face, like any web server, sees the IP address a request comes from; its own privacy policy covers that. The app's content security policy blocks every other outside connection.

The one way your data moves is the export button, which writes your reports to a .kj-report file at a location you pick, so you can carry them to another device. That file goes where you send it and nowhere else. Importing reads such a file back.

Permissions

The Android build asks for no runtime permissions at all. It does not request your location, camera, microphone, contacts, or access to your photos or files beyond the single file you choose when you export or import a report.

Google Play will list “full network access” under this app's permissions. That is the standard INTERNET permission, used only for the pack list and the pack downloads described above.

Children

Kanji Trainer is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above. The app is open source, so any change to what it does with your data is visible in its history.
